Uncontrollable Urinating And Your Dog

Posted On Friday, January 15th, 2010 By Catherine V. Testaratti

There is a common problem among puppies or adult dogs that are submissive and it is spontaneous peeing when excited or scared. We are learning that these problems are easy to fix by following a few of the steps below. Remember to always be consistent when training or working with a dog to rid them of their bad habits.

If your dog is experiencing this disorder that causes unnecessary peeing, then he might suffer from submissive/excitement issues. After a clean bill of health from the vet that there are no other medical problems that might cause this problem, then we can move on to the submissive/excitement peeing issue. Here are some things that you can try with your dog.

As you stand over you dog in a dominant position or face her looking into her eyes and there is not an issue with peeing then, we know your dog suffers from an excitement issue. If your dog pee’s when in trouble or scared or you are being dominant over her, then it’s a submissive issue. Both of these problems are dealt with in a calm and reassuring manner.

As with children, dogs work well with praise. Teach your dog a couple of tricks like sitting, stay or roll over and then reward him for his success. With a submissive dog, approach at their level, pet under the chin not on the head and naturally, no yelling.

If there are accidents with the peeing, don’t respond, just clean it up. But remember to praise the dog when they pee in their appropriate spot. Rewards and positive affirmation are always the best medicine.

Puppies are typically known for excitement peeing, especially during the first year. But older dogs are known for this as well. Excited to have visitors or the excitement of your arrival from work can trigger peeing. Just remember that there is no need to respond to the accident, just clean it up and praise the puppy when they are successful.

Many dogs can have this excitement peeing while playing. It’s always best to do the playing out in the yard where it won’t matter. Making sure that you are not encouraging rowdy behavior indoors can help you to keep the uncontrollable peeing in check.

Keeping your welcome to a minimum, no high pitched voices, excitement when you arrive home, will help with this problem. One thing that most dog owners find hard to do is to ignore the dog when they come home. This too can help considerably with the excitement peeing issue

Most dogs greet you at the door with an overwhelming excitement. Do not encourage this behavior, instead ignore the dog and only greet him when he is calm. Therefore you are sending him positive affirmation that calm is better than excited, eliminating the excitement peeing.
